Prayers for Discernment - June 30
For the next several weeks I am going to try to help us at FUMC to stay in prayer for discernment in our decision as to whether we remain UMC or disaffiliate. I will do my best to lead in a spiritual yet impartial way as we seek to know God's good and perfect will for us.
How do we ask for discernment? Let us first go to God's word which we hold to be true. Psalm 119:66, "Teach me discernment and knowledge." This our first and continuous prayer.
A discernment process is three-fold: awareness, understanding, and action. We have been made aware of issues within the UMC. We are in the process of gaining knowledge and understanding which will eventually lead to a decision/action.
Let us pray now and without ceasing!
Good and loving God, We don't know where we are going. We are trying to see the road ahead of us. Lord, we desire to please you, not ourselves or others. Help us, Lord, to make decisions that are pleasing to you and are your will for the people of this congregation of your people called Methodist. Holy Spirit, lead us, please. Amen.
